Budgeting: A skill on its own!

One thing that no one ever wants to discuss with others is finances. I mean, who wants to? It can be scary, frustrating, and annoying. Believe me, I have been there. None the less, I have been #budgeting ever since I started working. When it is done correctly, it can become a wonderful life saving tool. (Financially.)

One of the main reasons that people do not #budget, is because they do not know where to begin, when I started, I didn't know where I was going to start either. And that is okay! This post is going to be how Josh and I created our new system. (Granted, this system may not be for everyone, because everyone is different!)

Firstly, this is a system that I learned from listening to Dave Ramsey. If you are not aware of who Dave Ramsey is, here is a link to his website! https://www.daveramsey.com/new-to-dave?snid=start.newtodave Dave is a business man, author, financial broadcaster, TV personality, and motivational speaker. He helps people from all over to overcome debt and learn how to save and live by their means. I first listened to Dave Ramsey when my mom was listening for advice through her financial struggles. I was about 14 years old at the time.

The envelope system has been known by many people, and I have loved using it. But it is something that needs to be kept up to date (like all budgets) to work. What I ended up doing here, is taking sheet protectors, wrote on the page what envelope and cash amount is to go into that envelope. In front of the pages, there is a weekly spending sheet to help us keep track of where our money went that week.

Secondly, Josh and I asked our friends how they operate with their personal savings. (With our jobs as of late, we felt we haven't been able to save really anything. (After reviewing this new method, we learned we can save!) It is called the Savings Agreement. This lays out how we are to handle the money that comes into our joint account and how to handle bills and savings. It is a trust based system, and it will be a challenge, (it's no longer my money and his money, it is OUR money.) We are happy with this new system and will have the opportunity to try it out for the first time starting Friday! I will update this post after we budget! Will this system work for us? Are there going to be struggles? What can be fixed? All these questions will be answered! Stay tuned!
